I am honored to announce that I have been chosen as one of Crain’s 2021 annual Most Notable in Health Care List. This achievement is especially rewarding after the adaptations and hardships we as a company and as people went through in the year 2020. I am delighted to be recognized for my continued DEI and community efforts.

My company, Emblemhealth, announced my accomplishment:

“EmblemHealth, one of the nation’s largest non-profit health insurers, announced today that its President and CEO, Karen Ignagni, and Chief People Officer Donna Hughes have been named to Crain’s New York Business’ 2021 Notable in Health Care list. Ignagni and Hughes were recognized by Crain’s for their exemplary leadership, innovation and compassion throughout their careers, and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Donna Hughes, who leads EmblemHealth’s Human Resources department, drove various groundbreaking initiatives to enhance culture and elevate employee experiences, affirm the company’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the workplace and in service to our customers and communities, and to foster a greater sense of well-being, inclusive leadership, and belonging among EmblemHealth’s 4,500 staff members.

“‘I am honored to have been entrusted by Karen to lead an amazing team through challenging times, requiring us to stretch and grow in different ways,’ said Donna Hughes, Chief People Officer, EmblemHealth. ‘It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized among such a stellar group of health care champions.’”

My feature in Crain’s article:

“Donna Hughes has received widespread acclaim for her work at health insurer EmblemHealth, where she has been chief people officer for two-plus years. She was showcased in a 2019 Profile Magazine article, “How Donna Hughes Guides Teams along the ‘Curve of Change.’” Hughes is responsible for more than 50 human resources professionals and aligns human capital strategies with EmblemHealth’s overall business plan. She has focused on driving engagement, retention, diversity, equity and inclusion, and a high-performing culture for the company. A trained attorney, Hughes has been a guest speaker for various organizations on employment-related topics, including post-merger integration, mental health in the workplace, the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, and leadership strategies during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
