Shirley Chisholm- American Politician and Activist - Stephanie Ackler
An inclusion and diversity advocate, Stephanie Ackler takes on social responsibility to address, acknowledge, and stop social injustices and inequality. Stephanie has a lot of experience in the financial services industry, and always works toward empowering those around her.
Black History Month is celebrated during the month of February. Stephanie and her colleagues are sharing a few notable Black/African Americans who have made positive contributions to society. An inspiring Black woman they chose is Shirley Chisholm.
“Shirley Chisholm (November 30, 1924 — January 1, 2005) was an American politician, educator, and author. In 1968, she became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress and represented her congressional district for seven terms from 1969 to 1983. In 1972, she became the first black candidate for a major party’s nomination for President of the United States., and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.”
